I have watched Richard T. many times on TV. He is incredible! But, my question is; who was sitting beside him while he was practicing all that time to let him know if he did the cards right?

Tommy Cooper was a member of the magic circle. He was a highly skilled magician who added prop comedy to his routines. He was doing a magic act once and messed up a trick, seeing how much people were laughing at his mistake, he decided to fail on purpose, while also adding some successful tricks to catch the audience off guard.

Derren forced that 7 of hearts beautifully. Then I’m pretty sure he used a similar technique borrowed from the invisible deck but just applying to the 7. Definitely no one is in on the trick.

Him not talking was totally fine. The trick was badass. His facial expressions and goofy posturing were really cringy though. Like he wanted to get dirty with the cards.

  • @jabasabon

7 of hearts is the card I picked, but I bet most people will pick the 4 of hearts because you lingered on that one longer. I believe it may have been the last card.

  • @cuda426hemi

So he's displaying edges from three "chunks" of cards separated by "your" "card" "is" cards... one chunk states the value and the other the suit, the chunk in middle always has the "OF" plus some cards he could slight to the left or right chunk of cards if he needs 'em. If every other card is shaved he can spread at least 4-6 different exposed edges and there's yer letters. Remember those trick decks - every other card is shaved so when you flash through in one direction it misses the short cards and shows only Jacks, then when you flip the deck and flip through it looks like a normal deck because your finger doesn't hit any of the shortened Jacks. Same thing here - it's in the spread. Or not. 👀

His talent seems to be wasted on you, he's tricks are designed to fail on purpose. Then he'll do one or two properly just stick to what you do and forget about him your never understand.

It's important to understand that few people who are registered blind have zero vision. Most have some restricted vision - which is presumably how Turner could win a black belt in a striking sport.

When I was a teenager I was lucky enough to see him lecture in Toronto at The Society of Canadian Magicians Everything I know about coin magic I have learned from him. The final coin vanishes at the end into the cup is what fooled them. I believe he created that last part especially for P&T. I hope you get some of his books and lectures He is the most inspiring coin artist I have ever seen. He was very close to the end of his life by then and it's a shame he had a bit of a shaky hand, but that was not nerves.

Turner was not always blind, start with that. He had perfect vision up to age 9. His vision deteriorated due to scarlet fever, but it only impacted his forward vision. He got his black belt when his peripheral vision was sufficiently good to know where large objects were located. Over the years his vision has steadily declined, and only today nearing age 70 has his vision gotten so bad that he can't even tell the difference between sunlight and darkness. The idea that he spent his life in complete darkness, no vision whatsoever, is not right. Could he qualify for a black belt today? No chance.

I honestly am not even to into this magic stuff but seeing how a lot of this stuff is done lately has blown my freaking mind and some of you magicians have a level of sleight of hand and just unnatural misdirection abilities that shouldnt be possible lol but David has always been someone to blow my mind since a kid seeing him on TV and learning that most of these big tricks he does is FUCKING REALLL like this dude really threw up frogs holy shit, hes definitely someone who will be remembered for ages. Loved the video bro im definitely gonna have to watch more.

While there's plenty of reason to admire Richard Turner, I do feel like he exaggerates his own status to an extent. His stories about the mafia are nothing short of nonsensical, they sound straight out of a Hollywood movie. It also should be noted that while he claims to be a card mechanic, he does at times use gimmicked decks. His Penn and Teller performance for example contains a move which makes no sense unless he was using a stripper deck. I would not be surprised at all if the 'weighing of the ink' was something similar.

this kind of "magic" is the kind that only works with a video camera. Watched this video in Extreme slowmotion and it's just impossible for human beings to achieve this, his wrists are not muscular so you would see his veins and arteries very visable if this was "sleight of hand", but even in extreme slowmotion his arteries and veins are completely still.. This act would never work in real life.
